Een fotoboek als zoektocht van een vader naar passende beelden bij de wereld die zijn zoon beschrijft.
All the grass is dead” is een gedicht gepubliceerd door mijn oudste zoon Jef op zijn Instagram stories. Toen ik Jef ernaar vroeg, vertelde hij me dat hij het schreef tijdens de tweede hittegolf die België trof in de zomer van 2022. De beste manier om het effect van dit gedicht op mij te beschrijven was om te fotograferen en te werken in de donkere kamer. Ik kon, en kan nog steeds, geen woorden vinden om hem gerust te stellen.
In het voorjaar van 2023 deden we een crowdfunding campagne om het project in druk te laten gaan. Meer dan 150 mensen scherven in op de crowdfunding waardoor we voldoen fondsen hadden om het project te realiseren. Begin mei kwamen het drukwerk aan waarna elke boekje door mezelf met de hand in elkaar werd gezet in De Zilverbeek.

“All the grass is dead” is a poem published by my eldest son Jef on his Instagram stories. When I asked Jef about it, he told me that he wrote it during the second heatwave that hit Belgium in the summer of 2022. The best way to describe the effect of this poem on me was to start taking photographs and work in the darkroom. I could, and still can’t, find the right words to reassure him.
In the spring of 2023, we launched a crowdfunding campaign to publish the project. Over 150 people contributed to the crowdfunding, providing us with sufficient funds to realize the project. In early May, the printed materials arrived, and I personally assembled each booklet by hand at De Zilverbeek.

“Toutes les herbes sont mortes” est un poème publié par mon fils aîné Jef sur ses histoires Instagram. Lorsque je l’ai interrogé à ce sujet, il m’a dit qu’il l’avait écrit lors de la deuxième vague de chaleur qui a frappé la Belgique en été 2022. La meilleure façon de décrire l’effet de ce poème sur moi était de commencer à prendre des photos et de travailler dans la chambre noire. Je ne pouvais, et je ne peux toujours pas, trouver les mots pour le rassurer.
Au printemps 2023, nous avons lancé une campagne de financement participatif pour publier le projet. Plus de 150 personnes ont contribué au financement participatif, nous fournissant ainsi les fonds nécessaires pour concrétiser le projet. Début mai, les documents imprimés sont arrivés, et j’ai personnellement assemblé chaque livret à la main à De Zilverbeek.
